Product Description

Rosary Pea, Jequirity (Abrus Precatorius) 15 Fresh Organic Rare Heirloom Seeds

This sale is for 15 Rosary Pea seeds. Seed spilled onto plate is an approximate amount included in this purchase. The picture showing a packed glass vial containing seed, silica beads and organic cotton is what you will receive. We securely pack the seeds in a glass vial with an air/water tight screw lid and silica beads for moisture control. Kept at 50 degrees F, our seed can remain viable for years and if kept in the freezer, can last for decades. Use your seeds right away or store and use for years to come. All of our seed is fresh and was harvested on 10/26/2014. Though we grow our plants and produce our own seeds for sale, germination rates are never guaranteed.

Herbal Uses:The plant is best known for its seeds, which are used as beads and in percussion instruments, and which are toxic due to the presence of abrin. Abrin is like ricin but is much more potent taking much less to cause death. One seed chewed and ingested raw will kill an adult. Cases of death from finger pricking have been reported from people using needles and string to make necklaces and other jewelry. Please use caution with these seeds. Never ingest, inhale or even touch the inside raw kernel of this deadly tropical legume. The plant is native to Indonesia and grows in tropical and subtropical areas of the world. It is a large vine that grows to 30ft+ in our south Florida Sabal Palms. This is done by boiling the seeds in milk and then drying them. The protein is denatured when subjected to high temperatures which removes its toxicity. In Siddha medicine, the white variety is used to prepare oil that is claimed to be an aphrodisiac. A tea is made from the leaves and used to treat fevers, coughs and colds. The plant is also used in Ayurveda. ***CAUTION*** Keep these very colorful seeds away from children please. They look like little ladybugs that kids are attracted to.
